Crochet Club
Project Launch: 1-14-16
This project, started by two women in Barrio San Antonio, will provide local girls with a much needed positive and creative recreational outlet in the form of an after-school crochet club. The girls will engage in artisan and entrepreneurship workshops, and sell their crafts at the week-long annual community festival in Citala.
Project Update: 5/1/16
Every day after school, the group of 30 students meet for three hours to make crafts. In addition to learning new designs, it provides the youth an opportunity to interact with one another in a space that promotes creativity and free thinking. The City Council has donated a table, which the group will use to sell crafts outside the school and health clinic.
Project Update: 8/1/16
Participants have sold their creations at a local fair, allowing their art to gain exposure and a local following. In addition, the City Council donated a canopy for use in the stall when the club is selling its wares.
