Latrine Installation and Community Mobilization to Improved Sanitation

Year: 2015
Country: Senegal
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Health
Project Investment: $9,754.51

Project Launch:

Forou Serer, Forou Bobene and Forou Peuhl are some of the most rural communities in Senegal. They have no electricity or running water and only eight households have functional bathrooms. This project aims to improve hygiene and sanitation across the three communities by constructing 70 household latrines, as well as a latrine and washroom at the local health hut, in collaboration with a local hygiene committee. Participating households will be asked to complete a series of health education sessions, focused on safe water storage, handwashing, and other improved sanitation and hygiene practices.

Project Update

The hygiene committee has been trained and have led sanitation and hygiene workshops in each of the three villages. Handwashing stations have been constructed in the communities and latrines are currently being built. The community is very receptive of the project and there has been a noticeable increase in the amount of people washing their hands throughout the day.
