Keur Bakary School Garden and Outdoor Classroom
Project Launch: 5-19-16
This project will build a demonstration garden at the local primary school in Keur Bakary, a small village in Thies. The garden will be used to teach students, community members, local farmers and women’s groups about agricultural techniques and basic nutrition, as well as provide an additional source of food and income for the school.
Progress Update: 6/24/16
Most of the project construction has been completed. The plan is to use the space to grow okra, which will be then be sold in the community. The profits made from the sale of the okra will be used for funding the school and to fund the purchase of seeds in the future. The community has been very supportive and interested in the project to date.
Final Update: 8/23/2016
Donated fruit will allow students to sell the produce to buy seeds to start this year's sowing. Students are scheduled to return in October at which point planting will begin.
