Manos Maenos en Mocion (Mao Hands in Motion)
Year: 2011
Country: Dominican Republic
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $405.41
Project Launch:
Buenos Aires, Dominican Republic is a community of about 200 people in the northwest of the country. Like many Dominican campos, nearly everyone is somehow related to everyone else, fostering a strong sense of family and community here. Residents believe their community is off the map for most politicians. The evidence of that is everywhere: children, especially those with special needs, are underserved, trash is piled high, and amenities like camps and after school activities are rare. With a $405 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program, Buenos Aires’ kids were treated to a summer camp that taught them how to care for their community and to have fun while doing it. The camp aimed to also build an understanding of special needs children in a kids-led environment where all participants were encouraged to develop new interests, accept their strengths and befriend someone new.Explore other Projects
