Nsondole's Science Laboratory and Library
Project Launch: 8-8-19
In Zomba, Malawi, the Nsondole's Parent Teacher Commitee has proposed a project to construct a building that will house a library and a science laboratory. This school uniquely accommodates students from 25 villages in the area. The goal is for students to have more access to learning materials and for teachers to be able to demostrate science concepts to their students, therefore motivating them to be more interested in science subjects such as chemistry and physical science. With more hands-on learning, students' academic performance will improve.
Project Update: 2-6-20
The construction of Nsondole library and science laboratory began October 21, 2019 with $5,388 grant funding from World connect. Three months after the project launch, the School Committee completed construction on the library and science laboratory super structure. At the time of the progress report, community members were plastering the building. The construction of this space will improve the learning conditions and quality of education at the school as students will have a place to do practical lessons and also study. The community has shown dedication to the project by providing in kind contributions like, sand, quarry, storage room for the building materials, and monitoring of the building process every day. So far 80% of the project has been covered and the project is expected to be completed by the end of February 2020. The school has about 200 students who will all benefit from the project once completed. One of the students said “I am very excited that a library is being constructed at our school. It will help us have access to more books and a good reading environment. I would like to thank everyone involved who is making sure that the project is successful.”
