Summer of Fun!
Year: 2011
Country: Dominican Republic
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00
Project Launch:
Batey El Triple Ozama, a community of about 2,500, Dominicans and Dominican-Haitians, is two hours north of Santo Domingo in the province of Monte Plata, the third poorest province in the Dominican Republic. Once devoted to sugar cane, farmers now tend small plots of land for dairy farms and for growing root vegetables as well as bananas and plantains, a subsistence living. Although space is available, there is neither a school nor a community center; children roam the streets and fields with few options. An eight week, four-hour a day summer camp focusing on sports, arts, new ways to learn, nutrition, health and reading, would provide a fun and safe alternative to usual summer activities, or the lack of them. Local kids would help shape the agenda by choosing the material for the next week's curriculum. Kids learning, choosing to participate, having fun, enjoying childhood? Music to the ears of World Connect Kids.Explore other Projects
