Sustainable Women's Entrepreneurial and Empowerment Project (SWEEP)
Project Launch: 12-31-19
A community in Lagos State is utilizing $4,951.72 to improve the quality of life of 100 vulnerable and unemployed women with education, vocational training and life skills training so they can increase their income and economic stability. This specific community struggles with negative socio-cultural norms that hinder women from utilizing their skills. The women will be taught skills to gain employment or become self employed, and will also receive math and literacy skills to conduct business. The project has secured mirco-loans and start-up equipment for the women to access. Five training sessions will be conducted over 12 months, providing opportunities for women to train in tailoring, shoe making, fabric dying production and soap making. The trainings will take place at a center located in the heart of the community that is easily accessible. The center will also provide a safe space for the participants to discuss issues such as gender based violence and sexual reproductive health.
