Nursery School in Yelemiya
Project Launch: 2-28-19
Yelemiya will construct a small nursery school that will serve as a daycare and pre-school education facility. The school will provide a safe and educational environment for kids. After building the nursery school and stocking it with materials like a blackboard, chalk, and books, community members will hire a teacher and pay that teacher with contributions provided by parents of children in attendance.
Final Report: 3-31-20
Facilitated by Wedson Kondowe, a Village X field partner, the project has increased access to education through the construction of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) center. A conducive learning environment has brought gratitude amongst members and children who previously were learning under a grass thatched shelter. The project has constructed a nursery school with two rooms- a learning space and teacher’s office. The structure has been painted and has a comfortable space for 70 children currently enrolled. The school, which has been roofed with iron sheets will ensure that lessons are not disturbed by rains as was the previous occurrence. In an effort to ensure sustainability, the community has elected a school committee that will be collecting funds for the maintenance and management of the structure and wellbeing of the children. The project has excited community members with one participant lamenting the good working relationship the members had which will help them develop the village together through implementing other projects going forward.
