COVID-19: A Need for Food Security
Project Launch: 6-2-20
Footsteps is an entrepreneurship incubator based in Nairobi, Kenya. Despite graduating 716 women and adolescent girls from their program, the COVID-19 pandemic poses an additional economic strain to participants living in low income areas. Footsteps has generated a 4-phase response to COVID-19 including stimulus packages for the women’s small business, wellness packages inclusive of necessary menstrual hygiene supplies, tele-counseling and food distribution. With the varied challenges ahead of them, it is important to first ensure that the women, girls and their families can meet their most basic needs. This World Connect grant will allow for the distribution of nutritious food packages to 135 households every 2 weeks for a month and a half. Footsteps has partnered with local wholesale distributors to receive a 60-70% discount on food items such as maize flour, cereals, and vegetables.
