Los Cientificos Locos (The Mad Scientists)
Project Launch:
The Mad Scientists is a youth-led project that will provide several vital opportunities to at-risk youth in Villa Hermosa, a city of 90,000 in the Eastern Dominican Republic. Two youth, Oscar (14 years old) and Samuel (17 years old), will be leading a ten-week science course for a group of kids at their school, the Jose Ignacio Morales Foundation. The course will be focused on science education and its relationship to environmental action, paying particular attention to teaching kids about careers in the sciences. Each week Oscar and Samuel will organize a science project and lead discussion amongst the kids about how the project relates to the environment and the global economy.
