Ouled Ali Youssef Medical Caravan and Workshop
Project Launch:
In the rural region of Ouled Ali, access to health care for women is complicated by a number of factors. First, most women do not speak Darija (Moroccan Arabic), which is spoken by most visiting healthcare workers. Second, a doctor has not been posted to the local health clinic since August 2011. The Ouled Ali Youssef Medical Caravan and Workshop project will address these issues by organizing a three-day medical caravan in partnership with the Regional Ministry of Health. Doctors, nurses and specialists will travel to the three villages in the Ouled Ali region to provide consultations, screenings, treatment and referrals for women and other community members. A local youth group will also travel with the caravan and lead workshops focused on various health topics, including health and hygiene, nutrition and HIV/AIDS. The local health clinic will use this opportunity to petition the Regional Ministry of Health for a full time doctor.
