Strengthening Ancestral Education at Tayu Jee
Project Launch: 3-10-23
The Indigenous Shuar community of Tayu Jee is located in the Amazonian province of Pastaza along the banks of the River Pastaza. The community is proposing with this project to build an open-air classroom at the local school to support traditional/cultural education activities, as well as to build a small boarding house for students from Shuar families who were forced to move away from their ancestral lands in search of economic opportunity. The school will aim to provide Shuar cultural education alongside the standard curriculum, including classes in medicinal plants, traditional livelihoods, ceramics, and Shuar Chicham (the Shuar language).
